Matthew and Susan Bixby have been ministering in Monterrey, Mexico since 2002. Matthew was born and grew up in Spain to missionary parents. His time in Spain made him realize the importance of training national pastors. Susan’s family went to Chile as missionaries when she was sixteen, where she learned Spanish then and developed a burden for missions. Matthew and Susan met at Bob Jones University and were married in1998, after finishing undergraduate degrees in Bible and Marketing Management. Matthew also obtained an M.A. in Bible and has almost completed his D.Min. from Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
After graduating from the M.A. program at Bob Jones, Matthew and Susan were on staff at Tri-City Baptist Church for a year before doing deputation in order to serve at the Christian University of the Americas (Universidad Cristiana de las Américas or UCLA [pronounced ooh-kluh], www.ucla-mexico.org), where Matthew has served as chairman of the Theology Department and as Dean of Student Life. In addition to having six fully recognized undergraduate degrees and a master’s degree in education, UCLA recently opened the first fully accredited master’s degree in Expository Preaching in the Spanish-speaking world. Matthew also functions as the editor for www.palabraygracia.com,the university’s blog, which publishes three new articles in Spanish every week.
Since 2010, Matthew also has served as the founding pastor of Iglesia Bautista la Gracia (Grace Baptist Church) in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Monterrey. Approximately 80 people attend the church, where Matthew is also able to train some of his theology students in practical ministry. The church recently ordained two men to serve as elders in the church alongside Matthew.
Susan has ministered in many different ways: teaching Bible classes for women at UCLA, leading women’s Bible studies, speaking at different women’s conferences as well as writing a large number of articles for different blogs, and even collaborating in a women’s study Bible in Spanish.
Matthew and Susan have three children: Aaron, Ana, and David. All three of them attend the Christian school in Monterrey and are actively engaged in serving in the ministry through music and children’s ministries.
